List Knife

Harley decided that the list should make a knife,

The Design

After much discussion this was the agreed pattern. George Ezell who supplied this drawing had no idea what sort of trouble he was starting. :-)

The Makers

Don made his knife from an old Simmons file and everybody promptly agreed that that was a good choice. Also a choice piece of Alvin's mesquite with brass bolsters and copper and brass mosaic pins.

Vincent made this one in L6 and desert ironwood. It's a knife with a bit of history as its the last knife made in his old shop which burned to the ground shortly after it was made. His new shop is better, we hear.

Little bit of artistic innovation here. That scattering of dots represents the tail of a comet against the night sky. Blade is 01 with black linen micarta grip. Also white liners and nickle pins and bolster. The comet tail is made with brass and copper wire.

Guenter chopped up a tank barrel and folded it into the blade on his listknife along with a generous portion of 0-1 to make 128 layers in total. Guenter hardened to Rockwell 64/65 and drew back to 62. The integral bolsters are dovetailed to accept ironwood scales. It doesn't get much better than this.

Tony often signs himself as #1 on the list and perhaps not without some justification. Blade is cable damascus with bolsters of mokume,(nickel silver, brass and copper). Scales are in mammoth ivory with black spacer and the whole finish off with 14K gold pins. This knife was lost in shipping so if you come across it please contact Tony.

440C ..........Red ebony............Mosaic pins.
Not much more to be said about it really. Brian Barron helped even out the grind. That was the day I discovered that hollow grinding is'nt as easy as it looks. Pacific did the heatreat.
