Press Release Stolen Knife Report

Reporting a Major Knife Robbery

Recently before a major exhibition, thieves removed the loaded truck from a knife and jewellery dealer in Darmstadt, Germany. The truck, parked in front of his house, was taken in the very early hours without the dealer or his neighbours hearing anything. The high security door locks were apparently neutralized by breaking a window and climbing into the truck. The immobilizer was worthless when the truck was towed. How the alarm system and the steering wheel lock was bypassed is still a mystery. Regrettably, there was not a GPS system fitted.

Lost was perhaps the largest retail collection of modern custom-made pocket and fixed blade knives in Europe. American and South African makers were predominantly represented. Many knives were important and there were many both simple and complex damascus blades.

Also stolen was the complete collection of antique, estate, and modern jewellery. Much of the material was UK production. Modern items include gold country-sporting designs of birds, ducks, and shotguns; animal and bird broaches; opal and fire opal items. Antique items included pocket watches, gold and platinum stone set jewellery, Faberge styled stone carvings, and pearls. Photos and descriptions are on file with the German Federal Police. That office is responsible for the international co-operation on art, antiques, and collectable "lost" items.

All collectors and colleagues are requested to be very cautious if a large position of goods are offered. If any dealers or makers receive "curious" questions about their knives, please take the details and contact The Beaver.

The local police are still looking for an older missing truck. The German Federal Criminal Police are treating this as a major antique and fine arts robbery.

A substantial reward is being offered for the recovery for all or part of the collection. Please contact Mr. Knerr, Federal Criminal Police, Art and Antiques, (+49) - 611 -551 5775. Or the dealer at Harv Silk (+49) - 6155 - 2231. E-mail: der.biber@t-online.de
